There is a vast amount of animals and creatures that inhabit the small area of land off the coast of Africa. Madagascar has a great variety of animals ranging from insects to fish and frogs to birds to reptiles and to mammals. Interestingly, the animal inhabitants of Madagascar are more like the animals of South America then they are like the animals of nearby Africa. Of the 200,000 known animals on Madagascar about 75% of them are endemic, meaning they only exist in that one area. 80% of Madagascar's spiders, 90% of its reptiles, 99% of its frogs, and 44.6% of its birds are endemic.
